The annual awards recognise companies with game-changing technologies or innovations that have the potential to accelerate global decarbonisation and halt climate change.
Carbon Clean has been providing innovative carbon capture technology and services across a range of industries for over a decade and launched its latest fully modular industrial carbon capture technology, CycloneCC, in October 2021. CycloneCC is expected to disrupt the carbon capture sector, driving down the cost and space requirements for deployment, making the economic case undeniable for hard-to-abate industries.
For the last decade, the BNEF Pioneers award programme has identified the most impactful and original technology innovations for advancing the low-carbon economy. Finalists are judged by a panel of BNEF experts and winners must prove they offer a novel, substantial, scalable and competitive solution.
Carbon Clean is a winner in the ‘wildcard’ category – for companies addressing a global net zero challenge that lies outside the scope of the three categories chosen this year: providing round-the-clock zero-emissions power, scaling long-term carbon removal technologies, and decarbonising aviation.
Aniruddha Sharma, Co-founder and CEO of Carbon Clean, said:
“It’s an honour to be selected as a 2022 BNEF Pioneer winner – this recognition highlights the critical role carbon capture technologies will play in transitioning to a net zero world. Carbon Clean is revolutionising the industrial decarbonisation space for essential hard-to-abate industries such as cement, steel, refineries and energy from waste. Our latest breakthrough product, CycloneCC, reduces the size of carbon capture technology by 10 times and physical footprint by five times. Inclusion in the programme reinforces the impact we’re making to enable the capturing of 1 billion tonnes of CO2.”
Carbon Clean’s intention is to mass produce CycloneCC units to meet global demand and deliver the huge increase in the scale and pace of CCUS adoption across industry that is required to reach net zero. The company has already amassed an impressive list of industry-leading technology deployment partners, including CEMEX, Chevron and Veolia.
Claire Curry, Selection Committee Co-chair and Global Head of Technology, Industry & Innovation Research at BloombergNEF, commented:
“We are cognizant of how essential new technologies are for tackling climate change, and how hard it is to scale innovation. Since 2010, this award has been a positive influence on climate-tech innovation, and we believe it is now more urgent than ever to highlight the technology gaps to reaching net zero and the entrepreneurs addressing them.”
